We have eaten here several times, always trying something different. I really liked the Tiger Cried Beef, but as an entree. I wish it was just a tad bit more when served as an entree. Curry is very good as well. I can say the only disappointment is that they always seem to be out of Singha beer when I go there. Otherwise, A+.

This is only based on take-out. I have to agree with other reviewers, Tasty Thai is either hit or miss, very inconsistent. We have had takeout about five times and every time it has tasted different. Our most recent visit was for their Tuesday Pad Thai special- the Pad Thai must have been prepared in a large batch and been sitting around, it was like warm, over cooked- tasted awful!
(2)Katherine D.
I was truly surprised. The fried tofu was crispy and meltingly perfect inside with a nice sauce. The little side soup had nice broth. I had pad ki Mao with beef. It was outstanding. I can't speak for consistency or how time of day might influence it. It is just 3:00 pm on Saturday. But I enjoyed this WAY more than I expected too. I will return

I really enjoy Tasty Thai. To start we always get the beef jerky with an order of the sticky rice and the dumplings. The beef jerky is phenomenal and I have not found another Thai place that does it this well. You rarely even see it on the menu. I am usually that person that orders the same meal each time they go once I find something I love, but not here. I order differently each time and I have yet to be disappointed. Love the taste, which is a little on the sweeter side than other thai places, but still delicious, well priced and one of the few up north. Tasty Thai is my favorite thai place in KC, followed by Baan Thai in Leavenworth. I love also that they stock Chang beer. You can always pick it up at Bubbles in Gladstone.

After hearing rave reviews about this place, I finally made it! I had the Pad Thai with tofu and veggies and it was delish! I did find it strange that all the servers were just in teeshirts and sweatpants, but they were friendly and helpful. Definitely be back soon!
(4)Eric D.
I go out of my way to get the rama chicken and the pad thai. Good pot stickers too. Never dined in but looks like a nice home owned place.
(4)Jeffrey 1.
Good food and good service. The ladies working there will work with you if u r not sure what u want and will explain to you. Good place for vegetarians, they will make sure that there is no meat or seafood in your dish. It is tasty and I would recommend!

Tasty Thai is by far one of my favorite go to restaurants in Liberty. The wait staff is always fast and very accommodating, and they get to know you if you go more than just a couple times. If you like a spicy without sacrificing flavor, check out the Gra prau nua. And if you're looking for crab Rangoon's better cousin, try the poo thong.

The wife had a Thai craving and since Tasty Thai was nearby, we decided to dine in. Last time we got it to go and had an average experience. However, our dine-in experience was quite a bit better. We got everything we got before, with Poo Thong and Tiger Cry Beef to start. My wife did enjoy the Poo Thong and the Tiger Cry Beef was excellent. I eat it without the spicy dipping sauce. It is really good. We also both got entrees. I got a pork garlic stir fry. My wife got her usual, chicken pad thai mild. Both were quite good. There were a lot more veggies in the stir fry than I counted on. The stir fry has carrots and pea pods. I ate around them and enjoyed the pork. All of our food was very good. Dining in, we were also served a soup that my wife didn't want to try due to there being tofu in it. My wife draws the line at tofu. Far better experience dining in than getting our food to go. Thank you Tasty Thai.
(4)Claudia S.
I'd go back just for the Poo Thong. It was great. They have tons of signs on their windows boasting about specials, but some have out-of-date prices. We don't eat Thai much and were having trouble deciding what to get, so we just got the appetizer sampler, which is served in a giant boat. The boat serving was kinda silly. The soup she brought first was really good. The appetizer were mostly good. A couple of things were not my favorite, but still edible. Everything was fried...it'd been nice to have some things that weren't fried. Although the restaurant seemed clean, the menus were caked with yukky goo. They need to burn those menus and get some clean ones. My favorite thing was the Poo Thong. Next time I might just order that.

In a nearly abandoned strip mall it's hard to miss with a plethora of signs pointing your way to the location. We ordered for carry out and so I didn't get the full effect of the ambiance, but I can say it look nice from the entry way. To the food. As I say, we ordered for carry out and we got Shrimp Egg Roll which were whole shrimp wrapped in rice paper and fried. I'm not a shrimp fan - don't hate them, but do not seek them out. These appetizers were fantastic. I fully recommend, they had a great fresh shrimp flavor and crunch with the wrapper. Pot Stickers were your typical Asian fair, but ours were served with a super thick pungent sauce that was not complementary - I think it was Duck Sauce. For entrees, we had the Panang Curry which was a sweet and spicy curry with bell peppers and Kaffix lime leaves in coconut milk. Had great coconut and curry flavor, but was mostly broth/soup and was extremely hot. I know Thai is spicy, and we liked it, but they should give you a warning - it was that spicy/hot. We also had the Thai General's Chicken which was, as you would expect, fried chicken stir fried with onions and bell peppers in a special sauce. The spice on the sauce was absolutely perfect one of the few iterations of this food I've had where I thought they actually got the mix of sweet heat right; however the chicken pieces tasted like they were cooked and held in the freezer or fridge for a few days and then reheated - you know that reheated fried food taste? Overall, it's OK and I would suggest people would try it out once, but for me I've got other joints in waiting I don't see it as a regular choice.

You know I was very apprehensive about coming here since the store front was littered with huge signs advertising daily specials. We were there for Tuesday, which is 'buy one pad Thai and get the second for $1'. We got seated and ordered the special (one chicken and one shrimp). I've tasted it before and previously it tasted like it was just soaked in ketchup. This time, however, it was very good. The only thing that was missing was bean sprouts! They are a must with pad Thai! We also ordered the poo thong which i thought was a version of a crab Rangoon but less cheesy. The sauce went well with it. And we also ordered egg rolls, but I wouldn't recommend it. Was not good, flavor was lacking. As we sat here and more people came in, everyone ordered the pad Thai, which I guess made sense since it was the daily special. There's also big bowl pho next door which they run. It's supposed to be Vietnamese but the fliers cluttering the windows liked more like a multi cultural Asian restaurant. I'll give it a try next time.
(4)Sarah K.
Best pad thai in KC! I love the beef. And you get so much for the price! I always make 2 meals out of it! And if you go or order on Tuesday you can get 2 pad thai's for less than $11, because Tuesday is Buy 1 Pad Thai, Get 1 for a $1! My mom, who isn't even an Asian buff like myself, says this is her favorite restaurant in NKC. So you definitely have to check it out!
(5)Janet P.
Tasty Thai has a special everyday of the week and is quite cheap to dine out with a partner! Monday we had a buy one Curry get one for $1 deal. Both curries (Green and Yellow) came out in a big bowl and was really watery would prefer it to be thicker instead of soupy. They should really place it in smaller bowls because it makes it look like all liquid and no food. I also find it strange to have peas in a Thai Curry. The flavor however was on point! Thursday we had the $6 Pad Kee Mao(my fave here) and it was delicious, I had mine with tofu. Really flavorful and a good portion. My friend had their Thai tea and it was indeed like 90% cream and barely any tea as another reviewer stated. He didn't finish it All in all, food is good and specials make it cheap so I will be back often!
(4)Tracy I.
Enjoy the Tasty Thai. Pros: Excellent Tom Yum Cons: A bit pricey! This keeps me from coming here more often.
(3)Bell S.
I had Pad Kee Mao, Thai Basil stir fried beef, fried dumplings thai style, thai beef jerky (really really good with sticky rice), spicy shrimp, and sticky rice. The place use authentic ingredients like real thai basil and thai chili. They even used palm sugar for sticky rice instead of white sugar which made it taste that much better (a lot more "umami").
(5)Elizabeth W.
My husband and I just moved to town, we love Thai food and were excited to find restaurant near by with decent reviews. However, when we went the food was bland and later we both has stomach aches. We love Thai iced tea so we both ordered one, neither one of us could take more than a sip. Needles to say we will never be going back.
(1)Mina S.
Don't waste your time going anywhere else for Thai food. Go here. You're done. You're welcome.
(5)Jerice A.
Tuesday's has pad Thai specials -highly recommend! Tiger cry beef is amazing too. They have their own special tasty Thai sauce which is phenomenal. I'd recommend getting the shrimp fried appetizer and Thai iced tea. Pad see yew is also amazing. Ask for Matt!
(5)Tyler R.
Delicious Thai food in the northland. I have had the Beef Pad Thai, Chicken Thai Fried Rice, and the Almond Sauce Chicken and all meals have been great. Good service, big menu, and good location. They also have a few different bottled beers available so that's always a plus. They have good daily specials that are very reasonably priced, but some of their main menu items are a little high - that's my only reason for not doing 5 stars here.
(4)Kevin L.
Liked the food and atmosphere. Haven't had any complaints the several times I've been there. Another place to work my way through the menu.
(4)AJ T.
On the recommendation of my lovely waitress, I ordered the pad see ew with beef lunch special which is a solid deal in my opinion. The lunch special is $6-$7 and comes with an egg roll, chicken soup, and an entrée + meat/tofu. The pad see ew was pretty nice filled with veggies and a good amount of meat; the noodles also got a little char on them, and I personally love that -- gotta admit though, this savory noodle dish was a little too sweet for me. Minus the sweetness, it was delish The roomie ordered some kind of pineapple cashew stirfry, and his dish was too sweet for my tastes as well. Service was kind and efficient, though there were only 2 other parties in the restaurant. Based on price & quality of Asian food in the KC metro, I want to give this a 4. As a normal yelper, I'd give it a 3 based on price & my general desire to support this small business. Tasty Thai was advertising mango sticky rice outside of the restaurant, and I got pretty excited for dessert. Unfortunately, they didn't have any mangos... I'm pretty devastated that mango season is over. Le sigh.
(3)Joe E.
very good thai. Pad Thai comes with a lime and Pad Kee Mao comes in 4 levels "mild, medium, hot and Thai hot" which is pretty much in line with hot levels of most other Thai places. I enjoyed it
(3)Katrina K.
Worst Thai food I've ever had. It's not homemade, taste like that pad Thai sauce was from a jar or can. Completely disappointed. Pad Thai was way too sweet, left little to be desired. I won't be coming back!

As I found myself surrounded by loud, happy throngs of eating humans, wood paneling, dusty doodads and knickknacks, and the strains of Isaac Hayes' "Shaft" heard in a sound quality so low that it sounded like it was being played though a pillow, I smiled and thought to myself, "A hole in the wall makes the world go round." Situated in a Northland nether region thankfully just off of I-29, I was surprised to see the place packed at 1:30 on a Sunday afternoon. A huge family style table in the center of the room was filled with folks, so one would think the wait staff might lag under the service requirements of such a maelstrom. Not so; they were amazingly efficient, friendly and timely throughout the meal. This is not always the case in my dining experience- but I'll review Jun's Authentic Japanese when I'm feeling more ruthless. We started off with an order of spring rolls, which for the most part was very fresh even if the shrimp smelled a bit fishy; the chicken pot stickers were not too greasified, crispy on the outside and delectably juicy and fresh on the inside. The Panang Curry with chicken was well-balanced and gravy-like with a spiky Kaffir lime leaf accent and the Green Curry with beef was excellent, rich, complex, and somewhat fiery. But besides the mechanics of the food itself, which was for the most part really good, the cluttered, warm, happy atmosphere of Tasty Thai- a place that those who worship at the Church of Design would disparage using misshapen concepts like "open," "clean," and "light-filled" -- is exactly what I'm looking for in a place. A place that is like life itself- messy, cluttered, disorienting, and utterly delicious.
(4)Tasha F.
I tend to get simple items when I go to Tasty Thai, but I'm never disappointed! They have great daily specials, and I love their pad thai. I'll keep coming again and again.
(4)Jimmi H.
Tasty Thai is really tasty!!! Ok, sorry, I couldn't resist. But in all seriousness, I really enjoyed my recent dinner here. The husband and I were up north running some errands that were suppose to include a grocery stop, however our hunger took over and we decided that a meal would be a better way to spend our time. Now, where up north have we not been and does not have a giant corporate sign out front? To Tasty Thai! Walking up to this little Thai cafe, you may think they have one too many banners flying out front advertising their many daily specials, but once you get inside that all melts away. Simple seating, booths and plain tables, typical decorations and a really friendly staff all welcome you into their space. On our particular weeknight curry was the special. I don't usually go for curry so I figured I should because when they say it's on special, they mean it! I can't wait to go on a noodle night! The curry was very good! Great flavors, plenty food (even for Americans). I do want to note the spiciness. I asked how spicy their curry was and was informed that it was mild comparatively to most Thai food. They were correct, it was, but I'm also a huge wuss and sadly find mild Thai spice to be too much. In short, their food is delicious, but heed their little pepper emblems on the menu. I will be back!!

So typically I have come here and grabbed takeout, but tonight I decided to stay and eat. It is pretty quaint inside and the people are very nice and professional. The food is always great of course! I should sit and enjoy the atmosphere more often perhaps, and next time I should pay more attention to the daily specials. I generally already have in mind what I want if I come here. The special was displayed but wasn't mentioned to me. That is the only ding I have. Other than that, the Pad Thai (chicken) is always bomb and the Satay Chicken appetizer, which comes with a cucumber salad, was a great way to start out.
(4)Jason M.
They have great daily specials, good food and service. I usually go for the buy one get one for a dollar pad Thai on Tuesday
(4)Brian M.
The food is really good- I mean really good 20% of time. This depends on the different cooks they have or something. Very erratic portion size, flavor. Excellent customer service at Liberty store. So to summarize; 20% of time you will get the best Thai food you may of ever had. 100% of the time, it will be more expensive than most places. Good people for sure- tail is wagging dog.
(3)Jeremy K.
Yellow curry is awesome! Spring rolls came out quickly, friendly staff. I will come back again for sure.
(5)Barbara N.
Pleasantly surprised to find this hole in the wall on our way to the airport. Lunch curry special was a fantastic deal (asked for medium spicy and my mouth was burning-in-a-good-way for the entire meal and then some). Papaya salad was phenomenal and wicked spicy, and it was more expensive than both our curry meals put together (and totally worth it.) Deep flavors in the curry, red and yellow were both delicious. The chicken soup that came with the meal was great. Highly recommend this place- I haven't found a decent Thai place in KC until today, and it was so affordable I couldn't get over it. Great price for great food.
(5)Mark S.
Oh man. Tasty Thai, you've gone downhill for sure. When I came to KC abut 4 years ago, the food was actually pretty good. I would have given it a 3 or 4 stars for Thai food. I was so sad when I ate here recently, though: I just went for a quick Thai meal coming from the airport a few days ago. I do have to say, the service and cleanliness of the restaurant are fine, but the food was so bad, I could hardly eat it. We ordered some tom yum soup and panang curry, along with a few Thai ice teas. The Thai ice teas were mostly ice and condensed milk, and very small in size. A Thai ice tea at Hot Basil or Taste of Thai would be easily twice the size of what we received, and not be 80% ice, 18% milk and 2% tea. They were super sweet, which was fine, but there was no tea flavor! The drink didn't even have that off-orange hue to it, but looked like pure condensed milk. The tom yum soup was not memorable. It did have a lot of components to it, with tons of vegetables, which was good, but we got charged $1 for shrimp, only to receive TWO measly looking shrimp in the bowl. The flavor was bland - it lacked the sourness and spice that the soup should have. I figured that it was going to be flavorless when I didn't see any chili oil floaters in the bowl, and I was right. The coup de grace was the panang curry. It was watery like watery soup! No thickness to it at all. The flavor should be sweet from the cocounut milk with a bit of tang from the keffir and lime, and spicy from the curry, with a bite from the basil. It was just overly tangy and astringent flavored..and thin. It was like drinking the water strained from a banana peel. The chicken I ordered with it was overcooked and tough, not the tender chunks of moist chicken I remember from last time I ate here. The cost of the meal was average. The summary: Friendliness/Service: 5/5 Food: 0/5 Portions: 0/5 Cost: 3/5 My avg: 2/5. I would have given it a 1/5, but the people are so nice and the service is good. They really need to improve on the chef's dishes. There are many good Thai places here in KC, and it just didn't measure up, sadly.
(2)April R.
Great food. I love their panang (sp?) curry with veggies and rice noodles!! I also love their spring rolls, dipped in Tiger Cry sauce instead of the peanut sauce. They have good daily specials, which makes it very affordable! Both locations (KC and Liberty) serve great food. I'm looking forward to trying their new pho restaurant, next to their KC location.
(4)Justin S.
Went here simply because I had to run an errand at Kmart (yes, those still exist). Not much from the outside, but was greeted by a friendly waitress as soon as we walked in and sat right away. Got the pork pad thai and chicken satay. Both were great, definitely reminiscent of the thai restaurant I frequented back home in CA. Will definitely be back.
(4)S P.
It's hard to give five stars because that would mean that I was blown away, but Tasty Thai is definitely worth a try for anyone that likes Thai food. I believe they are reasonably priced and I haven't had a bad meal there yet. I generally eat there for lunch and they have an abridged lunch menu. Give it a try if you are into Thai. That should be their logo.
(4)Casey D.
Pad thai had no fancy presentation. Lime slices were not needed since their sauce was already sour. Service was okay. Nice decor.
(2)Shary J.
I have been several times and this place is hit or miss. My first visit was decent, but I was disappointed. I thought it was because I missed my Thai spot at home. Subsequent visits I have gotten home and had the wrong order completely, or the wrong meat. Other times, the food was very delicious. My most recent visit I ordered Basil Fried Rice and there was no spice to it whatsoever. It was so bland.
(2)Ray C.
I almost passed up a gem. Drove by Tasty Thai a few months ago and decided not to eat there because of the location and overall appearance. But I love Thai food and this place is so close to where I live. I decided to order a take home meal to avoid being inside if I didn't enjoy it. I went on a Monday when they have a special on curry dishes. Buy one get one for $1. For to-go orders it's an additional $2 but well worth it. I ordered 2 red curry dishes. Fantastic! Best curry dish I've had in a long time. We also had the spring rolls with the peanut sauce. They were okay. I will absolutely be a return customer. Well done Tasty Thai!
(5)Julius C.
We've been here many times but I haven't had a reason to go up North for a while. But like some of the other reviewers, I go here after a post-airport trip. We've tried many of the dishes here and just about all of them are good. Our favorite has to be the sesame chicken, which is actually a stuffed (cream cheese and imitation crab) chicken breast that is battered and deep fried. It is served with some veggies (snow peas, baby corn, broccoli) and a to die for peanut sauce. You are probably not gonna find that at too many Thai places. They also have a big list of appetizers, such as the Thai hot wings which come with an incredible chili sauce. We also love getting an order of their basil fried rice ,which has a spicy flavor-able kick to it. They also have the usual pad Thai and various curries that you can get anywhere, but I suggest you try some things on the menu that you won't find anywhere else. The other reviews about the service being a mixed bag are kinda correct but it's mostly small forgivable stuff that is soon forgotten once the food hits your mouth. This location is pretty much a little family run hole-in-the-wall that has a bunch of little quirky stuff going on. It has hand embroidered cutesy framed artwork that the mom made years ago. Upfront (by the TV that was coincidentally showing Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel) they have a display case were they sell bobble heads of ninjas and an old Asian couple. I think I also saw a bobble head of the owner. Anyway, go try this place out and see if you find it quirky and tasty as well.
(4)Crystal B.
Good meal, friendly staff! Wonderful soup! Excellent value. Could possibly be my new favorite place to eat.
(4)Sheryl J.
You won't regret visiting this tiny establishment! One of Kansas city's hidden gems. Ive tried many items from the menu and ive yet to find something that didn't taste good. On Pad thai Tuesdays, you get exceptional food for a very affordable price! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Kansas city.
(5)Vanessa W.
Get the Cashew Chicken and thank me later. Best thai dish ever. Perfectly flavored with loads of chicken and veggies. I'm also a huge fan of the Thai Iced Tea, which is creamy and delicious. I've done take out and eaten here and never been unhappy with the service or food quality.
(4)Michael P.
I really miss living close to Tasty Thai up north. One of the gems of the desolation known as the northland. Thai spring rolls and any one of their curry dishes was a staple meal for us when we just didn't feel like cooking at home. You could always count on TT being quick, delicious, and friendly. Carry-out was always a better option for us. The one time we did dine-in, the service was a little snow and we didn't feel like watching "How to Tame your Dragon" on the TV should be on the menu for a gratifying dining experience. Somehow I always felt sad for the people walking into KFC next door when Tasty Thai served up much better food without the clogged arteries. On a side note - really upset they closed their location waaay out south. Since moving to OP, it was the next best thing to driving to KC North for an outstanding Asian meal.
(4)A P.
You can probably tell from the up and down reviews here that the number one problem at Tasty Thai is consistency. Inconsistent factors: * portion size * ingredients * flavor * wait time/service Sometimes I eat here and it's AWESOME; other times it's pretty awful. Sometimes the servings are huge, sometimes not. Sometimes the flavor is wonderful; other times it's bland. I can't figure out what the problem is. They would be more successful if they could get a consistent product. Also, their prices are pretty high. And the ketchup in the pad Thai is nasty. I don't know why the owner thinks Americans want ketchup in their pad Thai (and yes, I have had confirmation from the kitchen that they put ketchup in it).
(3)Kerri A.
The Pad Thai (shrimp) was OK, but the severe abdominal pain and vomiting I endured later will keep me from coming back to Tasty Thai ever again. Of course, I cannot be certain what I experienced was food poisoning, but it happened about an hour or so after I ate lunch (take out) from Tasty Thai. I wanted to post this review as a warning to others just in case. This was the first time I had ever eaten at Tasty Thai, but it was close to my work so I gave it a try. I would obviously never go back, but I would recommend Hot Basil in OP or Thai Place in Westport or Lenexa. I love Pad Thai, but I'll be off it for a while now...
(1)Morgan K.
My favorite Thai place in town! Right out of the gate, their weekly specials - Monday's curry and Tuesday's pad thai (see below) - they are the best deal in town at ANY restaurant. Period. Due to these specials, you could have Thai food all week, every night for $20! Argh! If only I lived close enough...!!Those are the two I love, but there are more - Wednesday's fried rice (I think) and Thursday's drunken noodles. And now the pad thai.....fair warning - medium can be pretty spice sometimes (yep, my nose gets the sniffles), but that's pad thai for ya. Although, next time, I'm getting hot - not Thai hot, but hot. I had a bite of the hot the other night......yeah, I'm willing to suffer for the kicked up flavor! Some restaurants have a sweeter pad thai, but Tasty Thai's is just sweet enough. There's a good balance of bean sprouts, meat (best ratio I've seen on the meat) and noodles. I also want to mention the spring rolls. Now, spring rolls are pretty standard, but what makes Tasy Thai stand out is their peanut sauce. It's thick and creamy and sweet and spicy and I am not ashamed to admit that I have eaten it on it's own, right out of the container.....more than once....don't judge.... And last but not least, the young lady who works Tuesday nights at the front is one of the happiest, nicest, and sweetest gals in town!
(5)Brieanne H.
Tasty Thai is our go-to Thai place. We've never eaten there, but the carry out is quick and still freakishly hot when we get it home. Our favorites are the Lahd Na and garlic chicken stir fry. Veggies always taste fresh and crisp and not soggy, which is a big pet peeve of mine in some take-out joints. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable. Worth the stop!
(5)Andrew M.
Yesterday was the first time I've eaten here in a LONG time, mostly because I live so far away from the place. However, I had to run an errand in the neighborhood so I decided to look them up. The experience wasn't bad but not that great either. The service was plenty quick and attentive, however the only problem was that the appetizer came out AFTER the entree. It was very good so that mitigated things a bit, however the timing was a bit off, to say the least! My wife and I both ordered pad thai -- mine with chicken and hers with tofu. Mine was okay, but the sauce didn't taste quite like you would expect when ordering pad thai. My wife didn't much care for hers and upon tasting it I soon realized why. The sauce was very thick, there was way too much of it, and it had a very sweet and sour taste. Shouldn't pad thai have a peanut sauce?? That was pretty disappointing. I would probably give them 2.5 stars if I could, which is too bad because I know they are capable of better. I definitely won't make a special trip up north to come here again, but I'd be willing to give them another chance later in the future.
(3)Gloria T.
Hole in the wall atmosphere with fantastic food. I came on a Monday night which also happens to be curry night. Yum! I had the Panang curry with beef and jasmine rice....my favorite and so delicious. I would've licked the bowl if I were alone. Also had the Thai noodle curry which was rice noodles, vegetables and yellow curry. It was good but the Panang was better!
(5)Sara S.
Went for dinner, got spicy basil leaf and curry chicken. First off, portions are horrible for a dinner menu. The curry I got was in a huge bowl for illusion but the sauce wasn't so much sauce as it was soup. Disappointing. I'm pretty sure the food, both dishes were pre cooked and sitting in their kitchen because our food came out in the matter of minutes, literally maybe 5. The chicken was a bit rubbery. We each got a scoop of rice on a plate which was hardly enough for any Asian restaurants standard. When asked if it cost more to get extra, of course the answer was yes. Most places that charge extra for more rice give you plenty of rice to start with. Those who don't, the extra rice is usually offered for free. Overall a disappointment. Taste was ok, not the quality we expected for such a high rated place. Felt like we majorly over payed. Oh and almost 6 bucks for 2 egg rolls. I expected at least 3 or 4. Bummer. Recommendations for Thai, Thai place in Westport.

Tasty Thai is just that, tasty. I stopped here with my co workers just after we arrived in KC since we were all pretty hungry after a long flight. They seem to have a pretty decent menu, and their prices are very reasonable. It was quiet and cool inside, and our food took almost no time to prepare at all. I had the pad thai, which is usually a pretty good go to item when trying out a new Thai place. If they mess that up, then don't come back. But it is pretty hard to mess up since it is a pretty simple recipe (Ive made it at home successfully a few times myself). If you are ever passing through, I highly recommend going here instead of any of the fast food places nearby, because thats all you're going to find for the most part. Four out of five stars because there werent a lot of vegetable (non tofu) dishes.

For Lunch only - enjoyed yellow curry lunch special! The accompanying spring roll was so-so (should have chose the dumpling), but the cup of noodle soup they start with is AMAZING. I would love to have that recipe.! New fav place when up North or en route to MCI. Good stuff and great service.

I had the chicken Pad Thai at medium heat and the combination with the fresh squeezed lime was excellent. Better than most other Thai places I have tried at balancing the subtle flavors. Bonus is their Tues night special on Pad Thai....be sure to bring a friend. Also some coworkers went on fried rice night and thoroughly enjoyed the pineapple fired rice and even thanked me for the recommendation.

This little gem was such a pleasant surprise! Fast, friendly service and FANTASTIC food in really big portions - I had leftovers that I devoured the next day. This will become a regular stop

Our poo thong had no cream cheese. They were terrible. Chicken pad Thai was good. Fried rice with beef was excellent.

Tasty Thai is, hands down, the best Thai restaurant in Kansas City. They may have some issues with service, and the decor and atmosphere may leave something to be desired, but I go here for the food. Oh, the food. The Pad Ki Mao is delicious, and I've never found a restaurant that prepares it more deliciously. It's sweet, it's spicy, iit's punched up with the flavor of fresh thai basil, and the noodles have the perfect amount of char and chew. it's one of my favorite dishes in all of Kansas City. The Panang Curry is also amazing. It's well-balanced, with the exact right ratio of curry paste to coconut milk. Freshly chiffonaded kaffir lime leaves take the flavors to the next level, and give it a cleanness that's often missing in other Panang Curries. They do not use a thickener in their curry sauce, so those clean flavors really come through, and are not muddied. One serving of Panang Curry can very easily saturate two servings of their fluffy Jasmine rice, so I recommend getting a to-go box, and an extra box of rice. Speaking of to-go, they have KC's best carryout deal on Mondays. Buy one curry, get one for a buck. $15 and a tip, and you're out of there with two big tubs of curry, and plenty of rice to feed two people for dinner and Tuesday's lunch. Oh, and they deliver. :)

my husband's flight was delayed on Thursday and by that time our toddler was getting restless. knowing we probably wouldn't make it home, I pulled off the freeway where nothing really looked appetizing. thanks to the yelp app on my phone, we saw that Tasty Thai was back up the road a little ways and decided to try it (if it was half as good as other yelpers thought, we'd be happy). Looks can definitely be deceiving from the road. we almost didn't want to go in, but once we entered, we were warmly welcomed and brought back to a comfortable booth. we learned that the pad ki mao (something we typically order) was only $6 on Thursdays. we ordered that with beef (at our server's recommendation) along with the spicy eggplant with chicken after she told us what we originally wanted was very similar in flavor to the pad ki mao. we really appreciated her suggestions and loved what we ordered. the pad ki mao had a unique flavor, which came from the sauce and veggies that aren't typically found in the dish. we also really loved the sauce and veggies in the eggplant dish. the only negative was that I wished we had ordered an appetizer because our picky 2-year-old not only ate a lot of noodles (and veggies!) but quite a bit of the chicken out of the eggplant dish too. I'm actually looking forward to the next time my husband travels just so we have a good excuse to come back on our way home from the airport!!

Yes indeed. Yes indeed. I've only had one dish here, but will for sure be having more. My measuring stick is the Pad Sea Ew, ideally with shrimp. It's so basic, yet a poorly crafted item by many poor Thai restaurants. Tasty Thai did a nice job with this dish. The portion was significant enough to get a second meal from it, but then that requires self-control. So. One dish it was. The exterior is pretty weak. In fact, it looks closed from the outside save or the flashing "Open" neon sign. Large signs on the front tell you the specials Tuesday, Wednesday, Monday, Saturday....in that order. It's north, but not that far north. Prices are reasonable. Portions are big. Ingredients are fresh. Really....you should go!

This place is super good and probably now the best Thai food in KC. They are friendly, the food is good. They deliver, which is amazing. If there is one complaint, it is the fact that you can taste sugar is added in a lot of their dishes but other than that, it is great.
(4)Justin E.
I've always said that there isn't a bad Thai food place in KC. Some are good and some are great. Tasty Thai is small mom and pop dining. Some of the negative reviews are correct but I think the ratings are harsh. the food comes on in waves and you might not be eating your appetizer with your main dish or eating your dish after everyone else is done. Get over it. If you must all eat at the same time and say grace before the meal then I advise you go to subway because they'll make it your way.

I saw that this place had pretty good reviews and I was looking for a quick place to eat lunch. I'll start with the service which was mixed in many reviews. The service was a bit slow but I didn't see that as an issue. It was not because of lack of effort or attentiveness it seemed to be the same type of service you would receive from any family owned/operated restaurant that runs "lean" with employees. It was a team effort with many people trying to make sure my needs were met and I was appreciative; I thought the service was above average. In a first visit to a Thai restaurant I begin to judge it by the spring rolls; theirs were fresh and tasty - the peanut sauce was really good. I then moved onto my lunch entrée which included a good soup, a bit on the luke warm side and the Pad See Eiw. The noodles were very good and the sauce was fantastic as well the only downside was that some of the veggies tasted a little bitter which is unusual for that dish. Overall it was a solid meal with good service and a great price. I would definitely grab the spring rolls again and then try some other items on the menu.

I wavered between 3 and 4 stars, but only due to my own limited experience with their menu. Round in their favor, say I. My four trips to this location have each been as result of being on I-29, returning from the airport, and once was result of an overwhelming, gotta have it now, urge for Pad Thai. It obviously works well for me, in that department. The Pad Thai here is not the absolute best I have enjoyed, but I can't tell you what's missing, as I would need to compare it at the same sitting with Thai Paradise, of blessed memory. It is close, though. I have also sampled their Pad See Eiw, and it is delicious, but my memory tells me that Hot Basil in Overland parked nudged them out a bit with this dish. The menu is far too broad, to be represented by my limited samplings. Simply my fault and a group of my acquaintences need to be rounded up to help me explore their greater repertoire. So, be nice to me, friends. While picking up my two for one Tuesday Phad Thai's (8.95 at lunch), I ran into the owners of Mesob Pikliz, who were using their day off to enjoy someone elses spicey offerings. They said they have long been enjoying Tasty Thai. Good company to keep, and another nudge into at least a four star result.

I love the Tasty Thai! This place doesn't claim to be anything but what it is and that is why I love it. I worked nearby for years and discovered it only a couple of years ago. Myself and a friend shared the buy one get one deal nearly every week over the last year. The Food: I only get the Tofu Green Curry or the Tofu Pad Thai (when I stop craving them I'll branch out). They are always delish. The Service: The service is great. There have been a few times when the order was slow and they always made up for it somehow (sometimes they upgraded to the dinner portion @ lunch). The Lunch Special: This place has Curry Furry Monday (buy one get one for $1) and Pad Thai Tuesday (same deal). Even on off days the lunch special is a very fair $7.95. I no longer work nearby and the Thai places I am currently nearby pale in comparison. Sometimes I think they try to appeal to a clientele who still believes this is exotic food. Unfortunately this adds to price, and not quality. The Tasty Thai is not fancy but dependable and addicting.
(5)Desiree M.
We came here with a groupon. For the price and size of the entrees you get your money's worth. On Tuesdays they have buy one pad thai get a second for $1 you can't beat that. There wonton soup is very good. There pad thai not the best, but edible, its kindof got a ketchupie taste to it. Our first visit was very good, second was mediocre, we don't think we will come back as we pass through, at least not to go out of our way, but if you live close, and want good service for a good price this place is the place to go to.
(3)Stanis N.
The outside isn't classy but inside is quite inviting. The food was decent and wait service is average. Prices is on the low side which is a good thing. I recommend trying this place out.
(5)Samantha W.
This is one of my favorite places to eat in the Northland! Decent prices, delicious food, and friendly service make for a great experience. My favorite: Pad Ki Mao. Wide noodles, lots of vegetables, your choice of protein, and a spicy sauce make this dish filling and tasty. It has just the right amount of spice to give me a little burn without having to run to the water fountain.
(5)Rene T.
Food taste really good. Was decieved by the store front but the food taste great. The service was quick and they were very nice to me. Will come back when I am back in KC.
(4)Alex T.
I was really looking forward to trying Tasty Thai, given some of the awesome reviews here and my inability to find a decent thai restaurant in KC. I have to say, though, I wasn't all that impressed. The food was fairly tasty but wasn't anything remarkable. It was lacking the bold flavors I crave when eating Thai. I had the red curry, and it was a bit on the watery side - not a good sign. My girlfriend's pad see ew was pretty decent but had an unusual jasmine taste to it. The tiger cry beef was also just okay - strips of tender seasoned beef can never really be bad, I guess. All in all, it was a pretty "meh" experience.

OUTSTANDING! What a GEM. This is my NEW favorite Thai Restaurant in the KC Metro. One of my coworkers suggested takeout from there. Calling them and doing takeout was a breeze. They were very friendly, repeated the order back, and gave me the correct total. Anyway, THE FOOD: Ordered: Yum Talay - This was the spiciest and had a great combo of seafood. Spicy Basil Leaves with Beef Pad Ki Mao with Shrimp Pad Thai Kai Haw with beef - This was my favorite! It had a sweet flavor to it. It's wrapped in egg and inside you find the goodies. The noodles had good flavor. Tom Yum Soup with Shrimp - Lots of Shrimp in here and it was mixed perfectly. The taste was exquisite. Thai Sampler - Great way to experience the various apps. Love the shrimp purses! Satay Chicken - Quite good and had a bit of a kick to them. They gave us extra Satay Peanut Sauce. Thai Spring Rolls - beautifully wrapped and it has shrimp in there. Love the dark thick sauce. It was so sweet and complemented it quite well. You could taste the fresh vegetables. I love the consistency of the wrapping. It was such a pleasure doing takeout and EATING IT. I can't wait to visit the restaurant in person. WOW! Did I mention the prices are VERY competitive?

The food rates 3 stars, but the customer service drops that to a 2 stars. First, the food. I will begin by saying that Thai food is one of our very most favorite types of food. We've eaten in more Thai restaurants in more cities than I could begin to remember. As a result, we are quite conversant with Thai food, both authentic and Americanized. Sweetie and I recently had Tasty Thai's spring rolls, chicken larb, pork panang curry, and spicy basil fried rice. The spring rolls were good, the accompanying peanut sauce delicious, even if a little thick. The larb? Not so good. It wasn't bad. It was perfectly adequate, though a little bland and lacking in salty-sweet-sour-spicy complexity. The version I make at home is both more authentic and far tastier. The pork panang curry, while also not bad, was not particularly good. Probably the least good panang curry I've ever had from a Thai restaurant. I am a panang curry fiend, craving and adoring the thick, rich, complexly flavored sauce. I happily could drink it from a cup, glug glug glug. This panang curry? Eh. As for the spicy basil fried rice, it wasn't spicy at all. I was asked if I really did want it spicy, and I said yes, please. However.... no spice. The entire dish was rather bland. Now for the customer service. We never, and I mean never, order food delivered to the house. This was the very first time. We were putting up crown moulding and were hungry, and decided to splurge a bit. I pulled up TT's website, reviewed the menu, and called at 11:40am. The guy who answered the phone didn't seem at all pleased at being bothered. He told me that the restaurant didn't open until 12 noon. When I mentioned that the website said 11:30am, he told me that the website was wrong, and that I should have checked with the restaurant itself for accurate times (which.. umm... was kind of what I was doing). He then said that I lived a long way away (which is not at all true, maybe 2.5 miles), and I would have to order at least $25-worth to have the food delivered. Okay, I added an extra item, bringing the total before tax to about $29. During the entire conversation, he seemed annoyed and abrupt. If we hadn't been so hungry, and too grubby to leave the house, I would have nixed the order. The food showed up about half an hour later. Not bad. The woman who delivered it seemed pleasant. But the price she quoted was higher than it should have been. When I asked why, I learned that she had included a $3 delivery charge. I pointed out that on the website, next to delivery charge, it says N/A. This means not applicable, as in there is no delivery charge. She replied that the website was wrong, and that they had been charging $3 for delivery for a long time. The man on the phone never mentioned a delivery charge, saying that I needed only order at least $25 for delivery to occur. The restaurant's own website indicated that there was no delivery charge. (And this, by the way, is legally binding. The restaurant, or any business, must honor what it claims on a website.) But there the place was, trying to gouge a little extra money out of me. Clearly, $3 in and of itself is not a big deal. But on principle? Come on. This is not the way to treat customers. Everything about the experience- the man's attitude, the mediocre food, and that last little attempt to leverage more money from me, all combined to create an experience that I never want to repeat.

First time trying any Thai food ever. It was good. Got the red curry and potstickers. Service was fast and friendly. Will eat there again.
(4)Ken M.
My wife and I use this place for those "what do we want for dinner" evenings. The Pad Ki Mao is excellent, as is the Panang Curry. The staff are very flexible with spice level, which is something not every Thai restaurant can claim. They are also a convenient take-out place (you can order via the phone or internet). The biggest downside is the service. I don't particularly care to dine-in, as the service seems to take a long time for a small restaurant. Pick-up isn't a problem, though they have gotten my order wrong once or twice. I had to take off a few stars for that. Still...this is a go-to place for me and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for Thai food in the Northland.
(3)Amanda V.
I am obsessed with Thai food. This place is one to try! Hawaiian fried rice and the pad thai are so full of flavor and amazing. I could seriously eat here every day. Kudos.
(5)Tricia H.
The food is good I always try to sample something different everytime I go I can honestly say I have only been 4 times and only go if I have time for a long visit. The service it is HORRIBLE!!! If I didn't like the food I wouldn't go back, the last time I was there with my sister and Mom we asked the waiter if something was good and his response was " well how would I know I don't know your taste buds" seriously...he was a totally idiot! The time before that the guy who waited on us delivered our food and then proceeded to sit down and have lunch with his girlfriend, I even got up and helped myself to the water pitcher to fill my own water and it didn't even phase him...WOW The last couple of times I have ordered my food to go, the Sesame chicken is delicous and not what you would expect all the other entrees I have tried were all very very good its just a shame the service is so bad.
(3)Brad F.
This is a five star rating based on their food. It's simply amazing. I've eaten here twice. Once, I ate at Tasty Thai, and the other time was ordered for pick-up. I was blown away the first time I ate here. I ordered the Pad Ki Mao. It was fabulous. I was pleasantly surprised to find it just as good the second time I ordered it. Now, it's time for me to go back and try something different! Highly recommend.
(5)Kavi M.
Amazing good. Service can be a little slow or forgetful. Nothing major just a slight bump. Still highly recommend. Especially with all their daily deals.
(4)Marissa P.
Self Disclosure: I lived in San Francisco and was spoiled by amazingly authentic Thai food. I did not expect the food to be super authentic but the food here wasn't even very good. The green curry was watery and didn't carry much flavor. The noodles were clumpy over cooked and super greasy. I ordered take out and ordered mango sticky rice for dessert. Unfortunately, they didn't have this. Instead of calling to let me know they weren't able to make the item they made me custard sticky rice instead and charged me for it even though I didn't approve the substitution. Turned out to be a good thing though because it was the only part of the meal I enjoyed. Service or food, I wasn't really impressed.
(2)Brandon R.
Tasty Thai is a gem as far as I'm concerned. Do yourself a favor if you like spicy foods. Start off with the Tiger cried beef appetizer.
(5)Lauren H.
So surprising! I just happened to be in the neighborhood and saw the sign for Thai. I had to go in. Took pad Thai and spring rolls to go, and was so surprised. I thought it was spendy for the area, but the serving was very generous. After craving decent Thai for so long it was totally satisfying.
(4)Nicole K.
I just love how the inobtrustive strip-mall location next to the K-Mart makes you feel like you've really discovered something here. It looks a little dive-y, but the food more than makes up for it. Tasty Thai has a fantastic version of my favorite Thai dish - pad see eu with tofu. Mmmm.... Everyone I've ever brought here has raved about the food, and the service is pretty good.
(4)Megan M.
My friend and I were looking to find a great Thai place and were sent to Tasty Thai. I will admit that when we rolled up, the appearance of the place from the outside made us both wince and think "Oh this looks a little sketchy." We braved it and were pleasantly surprised at the very full restaurant and the great atmosphere. I had the Phad Thai with the combo. Perfect and one detail that many restaurants miss is the shrimp was cleaned perfectly. No black cack on the shrimp. A ++. My friend had the Panang Curry and although she would have added a bit of thickener to the sauce, she said it was delicious.
(4)Mike O.
4 stars for food and quirky waiter! Loved the entrees and the weird comments/stories from the waiter. Their lunch specials come with spring roll or dumpling but neither are available in a veggie option. :-( -1 star for the dumpy decor and filthy bathroom. Why do some restaurants think it is ok to have such a filthy bathroom for their patrons AND their staff to use... I am also a 'green' person and want businesses to do their part to preserve the environment, but I wish restaurants would stop using those old style hand dryers in their bathrooms and get back to dead tree paper towels! The door handles in these bathrooms are always wet because no one has the patience to wait until that crappy dryer dries their hands so they just leave, wet hands and all. Forcing the rest of us to come up with creative ways of leaving the bathroom but not directly touching the wet door handles. Wow, 3/4 of this review is about the bathroom! Enough said. Food is good and I'll just plan on avoiding the bathroom on my next visit!
(4)Greg N.
The food is fantastic-they will do anything for your order, more spices, less, substitutions. For those of you that are complaining about the waiter-he is the greatest kid in the world-we love him, he is funny and entertaining-he will explain anything and even tell you that his dad won't let HIM order some things off the menu because it is too difficult to prepare. Overhearing him explain to a customer that Pad Thai is the "chicken nuggets" of Thai food was hilarious. He talks to you like he is your friend not your waiter and we enjoy that familiarity.
(5)Micki W.
Love everything about the place. Great service or delivery, can't go wrong!!
(5)Mooose R.
I used to love Tasty Thai. I live nearby and still stop in once in a while. The people are great and some of the food is great. HOWEVER, I used to love their Pad Thai (chicken or Pork) until one day I went in and it tasted and smelled odd. I couldn't place it but my girlfriend identified the smell as Ketchup... It was not good, at all, I was disappointed as every time I had ordered the Pad Thai previously I had been satisfied. I called our waiter over, a cool kid that is easy to get along with. I tell him it smells and tastes like Ketchup. After some polite evasion he tells me that it's because his father changed the recipe because "Americans prefer sweeter foods" and began adding a fair amount of Ketchup to the sauce. I swapped out my order for Pad Ki Mao (my new standard) with no trouble. I have since ordered the Pad Thai again, hoping that the last experience was a fluke, unfortunately it was not. Avoid the Pad Thai if you like good Pad Thai. Other places do it much better. The Pad Ki Mao is great as is the Yellow Curry. I've had a few others that were not to my liking but the Pad Ketchup is horrible. If the proprietor decides to change the recipe back I'll gladly order it again and change my review.

Another restaurant with a big screen TV in the center, I don't get it. I think it's for the employees. I stopped in to get some take out never ordering from here before. My husband is a big fan and always raved about it. He ordered Basil Chicken and I perused until I found items I wasn't sure how to pronounce. I ordered the Poo Thong, a savory appetizer with crab meat, celery and cream cheese. As a subscriber to Coconut Weekly, I had to order the Tom Kar which was very distinctive and comforting on that cold day (should've added shrimp instead of chicken,) and the Graw Praw Nau, a beef dish that was filled with garlic, chili pepper, sweet basil, and onions. I was impressed with the quality of the beef as well as the rest of the ingredients. Overall I ended up spending about $40. I did notice they are advertising a lunch special for under $7 so I can sample so much more! I wish they would update the decor and the sign outside. It looks so dumpy, it took me 3 years to decide to eat here. The service was great for take out, very polite and speedy. If I do ever dine in I just hope the TV isn't on.
(4)Greg E.
Awesome! The food was absolutely perfect. Staff was friendly and everything was very clean. Super find in K.C.!
(5)Brenda S.
We were looking for something different in the northland and ended up at one of our favorite Thai restaurants. The golden triangles are awesome. The smell of the spiced meat explode when you cut them open. A quick touch of the sweet and sour sauce for dipping balances the saltiness of the meat. The traditional Pad Thai was as wonderful as ever. Sweet and spicy noodles with slices of chicken throughout. Delightful and warm on a cold winters night. My spouse had some kind of garlic chicken dish that smelled wonderful and tasted even better. If you aren't a garlic fan it would probably be too much, but that isn't a problem for us. The service is ok. It can be spotty at times. The young people in the family run the front and are easily distracted. They don't lack in energy though. The decor is always interesting. Someone in their family is a rabid needlepoint fan and does some wonderful work that is displayed throughout the restaurant. They also have a collection of tea sets and cups and collectible statues to keep your eyes busy for hours. Excellent as always.
(4)Edwin D.
Just had the Thai won ton soup and Thai fried rice and it was off the chain!! Tasty indeed. I've eaten Thai in several places and this one impressed me with its fresh ingredients and flavors. You can smell the goodness.

You can not, should not, judge a book by it's cover, especially when considering whether or not to eat at the Tasty Thai restaurant. The strip mall where it is situated is not the least bit alluring, and there are certainly more upscale retail surroundings, but the Pad Ki Mao is the best thing that I can remember eating in a Thai restaurant. As usual, this was the dish that my husband choose, and I only shared, but when I return to Tasty Thai, and I will, rest assured I will order it and relish each and every bite. Not only was it wonderful, it was visually stunning, just look at the picture I snapped. A large plate of vibrant colors, diversified textures, with the perfect balance of spice and heady aromas. Safe to say, I liked it, a lot. Now, turning to the entre I chose, the green curry, which was very tasty. I made my selection mainly due to a heart warming story from our waiter about how his grandfather makes all of the currys on the menu, and the list is extensive. Our waiter stated that these two dishes that we chose were very representative of true Thai cuisine. I was so delighted with the Pad Ki Mao, that I forgot to mention our appetizer, Thai spring rolls with peanut dipping sauce. Shrimp, cellophane noodles, and lettuce wrapped tightly in a spring roll wrapper. The peanut dipping sauce was very thick and cloyingly sweet. Generally, I prefer my peanut sauce thinner, with a hint of spice. All this, washed down with a Sapporo. Nice touch. The Far East is now north of the river. Enticing, exotic, and affordable.
(5)Guy L.
The food is typically very good. Only complaint is there's a little inconsistency with the spice level (one time a dish will be crazy spicy, the next time the same dish won't have a hint of spice). It's great for take out as you can even order online. I haven't dined in, so I can't speak to the complaints about service. My food is always ready when I get there and they seem nice enough.
(4)Jason S.
I had high hopes for Tasty Thai as I am always on the look out for new Thai cuisine. I had a less than great experience with the service and the phad thai was just ok... Soup was pretty good, however the biggest let down was the Tiger Cried Beef.
(2)Michelle K.
Hit and miss. The thai tea was very tasty, and was not overwhelmingly sweet or creamy. It actually tasted like there was a base of black tea. The appetizer of shrimp dumplings was really weird. I didn't like the texture of the wrapper and the filling was very bland. I would definitely steer away from the shrimp dumplings unless you like gummy wrappers and super sweet dipping sauces. However, I did enjoy the curry. I asked for it to be spicy and they definitely fulfilled my wish! They wrapped everything up nicely for my to go order and the guy working the cashier stand was nice and personable.

Tasty Thai is great. First tried after reading a good Pitch review. I wasn't disappointed. Tom-Kar soup will keep your tummy warm and happy. The Hawaiian Fried Rice, Sticky rice, taro root, are among my favs. Cashew chicken is a house specialty. You'll return many times. Oh yes, don't forget the bubble tea.

Where do I start with tasty thai... I have been coming here for about 7 years now and from the first time I went I knew this place was special. You wouldn't ever know by driving by that this is the best Thai restaurant in Kansas city. It's gotten to the point where they know me by name and know what I want even though I look at the menu every single time. Pad ki mao-- big flat rice noodles, baby corn, carrot, bean sprouts, pea pod, egg, basil leaves and their spicy brown sauce. There have been times that we went to tasty thai 5 times in a week and this is what I got every time. The balance of flavors, colors and textures is unreal. It's all so simple, but that's really the best part. I usually get it with tofu or beef and a side of rice. egg rolls- these are the best egg rolls I have ever had. Light, crispy, perfect amount of filling, peppery and just downright delicious! I also get this every time. When I don't get egg rolls and pad ki mao I either get yellow curry with tofu or any of their soups. My husband usually changes it up so I have had almost everything on their menu, but the one thing that he has gotten that blows my mind is their sesame chicken. It is a chicken breast stuffed with sesame seeds, fried eggs, spinach, crab meat and cream cheese, dipped in batter, deep fried and topped with peanut sauce. Most definitely not your normal sesame chicken. Here we go again with the balance of flavors, colors and textures that send your mouth in sensory overload. Having lived 5 minutes away and 45 minutes away tasty thai is the only place we'll go to get our thai fix . My parents are now big fans and my sister just can't get enough of the fried rice, egg rolls and pad ki mao. The service is always great and I just love how laid back it is because that kind of environment is what makes for a splendid experience! If we ever move away from Kansas city this will be one of the few places we will truly miss.

The first time I ate here several years ago I tried the Spicy Basel Beef. Having eaten spicy food all my life and been told by restaurants that their food was spicy and being disappointed, this was a revelation. The first bite took my breath away! Now before I frighten you off, be aware that they will taylor the spice to your taste so if you don't like spicy tell them. After the shock was over I was fine, but if your not expecting it... I really enjoy the Pad Prik with chicken here. Although I've never been a Curry fan, I really enjoy theirs and on Mondays it's buy one get one for a dollar day. What a deal! Their Chicken Wings fried crisp with some kind of sweet spicy sauce are to die for. I've never had better and they used to have them on Wednesdays for buy one get one for a dollar, but didn't get enough response to keep it up. What a disappointment. I don't think people realized what they were missing out on. I generally eat there at least once a week.

i went back over the holidays. the customer service was HORRIBLE and the food was just ok

This is a regular stop for us in the Northland. We usually do delivery but on occasion will go into the restaurant. We always get Thai Spring Rolls which are fresh and tasty and I always get Sesame Chicken which is nothing like I've ever had before. I'm not an expert in Thai cuisine but I do like this food. Some other dishes we have tried and enjoyed are the Pad Thai, Lard Nar, several different curries, and the Lemongrass seafood. It can be a little on the slow side, but I get the impression that everything is fresh so to me it's worth the wait. The decor is typical gaudy elephants and decorative teapots, but I can forgive that as soon as I taste the Peanut Sauce! The only thing that really bothers me is the inconsistency in the delivery service, many times we have called and they won't have a driver--I'm not sure if they are keeping that service.
(4)Jay R.
Pretty standard Strip Mall location. Boring decor, but that is where boring ends. Thai Spring Roll app. = 3 out of 5 stars. Little lacking in size and flavor. gave enough peanut sauce for 8 orders. Tom Yum Soup (Chicken) 5 out of 5 stars. One of the best Tom Yum soups that I have had. My friend had Yellow Curry, I tried it. Very good flavor for yellow, not too mild. Would definitely go back!

This was a random stop for us and what a pleasant surprise! We were helped by a very charming waiter who offered helpful suggestions and catered to each of our different spice levels. The Pad Ki Mao will keep me coming back! The dish was the perfect amount of savory and spicy.

We had reservations for 7 people. Our table was ready for us and we sat down at 7 sharp. That was about the only thing that went right. We ordered apps and main course. Two diners got their main dish before their appetizer. The service was EXTREMELY slow and poor. One person didn't get his meal until all of us were done eating. No apologies were offered by the waiter. Drinks were not refilled. My meal was nothing special. The red curry tasted exactly like something I would fix at home with a store bought red curry paste added to a stir fry. The appetizer soup, which arrived when I was almost done with my main course was lukewarm. The bill? Around $165. This was our 2nd try at this restaurant. Not again. I will continue to go to The Thai Place at the next exit south on I-29 at 64th street.

Tasty Thai was my first experience with Thai food some 8 years ago. I will not claim to be the Thai expert alot of reviewers seem to be, I eat iot because I like spice and I love everyhthing on my plate to be mixed together!! I have only had Tasty Thai for lunch, but their lunch specials are terrific. They come with soup and a chicken wing, I usually get the Pad Prik Pork or the Cashew Chicken. Both are out of this world. The place is familyh owned and operated and the service has always been spot on. Lunch can get a little crowded so if you are in a hurry you might want to head elsewhere. If you have the time, however, it is definitely some of the best Thai food I have enjoyed.

Initially reluctant to take the plunge and try Tasty Thai due to it's less than impressive curb appeal, I have to say I was thoroughly impressed! The food was indeed tasty! Get past the front door and enjoy!

Surprised to see this place does not have many reviews. This Thai joint is one of the northland's diamonds in a rough. And to date it is the only Thai restaurant that I know that can go toe to toe with the (delicious) monopoly that is The Thai Place. IMHO This is one of the Big Three in the area (along with Swagat and Malay Cafe) when it comes to ethnic food. Service here is excellent. The chef (perhaps the owner?) comes out at times to thank patrons. It's one of those customer service pointers many family restaurants fail terribly at doing. The Pad Thai here is stupid tasty. Just the right amounts of crushed peanuts and tamarind give this dish a well balanced flavor. The noodles are also perfect as well. Not rubbery, but not overly wet either. The peanut sauce that these folks use is also amazing. Try it along with the Thai Spring Rolls. And for those of you are really Thai, you can ask the chef to prepare pretty much any homemade Thai you can think of. The menu is only the beginning when it comes to offerings. If you live within a 10 mile radius of the place, you really need to stop reading this review and go try the place for yourself.

First let me start by saying I've had a lot of Thai food in the U.S., mostly on the east coast (NY, Connecticut, Florida, etc.) This Thai place was a bit disappointing. I decided to try it because it's close to where I live and they had some really good prices. I went at lunchtime and there was only one lady working as hostess, waitress for all the tables, and busser. Since the place was not extremely busy or large, it wasn't a huge problem necessarily, but obviously she was unable to give attentive service. She was friendly though. I had the green curry with chicken from the lunch menu. It was supposed to come with soup and either an spring roll or a pot sticker according to the menu. No soup ever came. The spring roll was tasty but tiny. Smallest spring roll I've ever seen actually. No dipping sauce either. As for the curry, it was too liquid-y and not as thick as it should be. While not the best I've had, I wouldn't say it was bad necessarily. Just enough spice in my opinion--it was hot but not so much that it was unbearable. It was abnormally sweeter than Thai curry tends to be, though. The hot tea was pretty flavorless. I love all kinds of hot tea, but I probably wouldn't order it again. It was pretty close to drinking hot water (even after being fully steeped). I wished that they had served hot Thai tea instead of whatever kind that was (it wasn't green tea or jasmine or black tea, just some kind of generic tea with no label that I could see). I went on a Monday, and they have a special deal, buy one curry dish and get another for $1. It was too good to pass up so I ordered one curry to eat and one to go (yay for easy work lunch!). I asked the waitress before ordering if the $1 curry applied to lunch as well and if I could order it to go. She said yes. When I got the bill, I was charged $1 three times (a total of $3). I asked the waitress what the other $2 were for and she said that was the to-go charge. When I ordered she never mentioned any such thing. Since it was only $2 I just paid it without complaining, but customers should be made aware of that surcharge before ordering. It was still a good price though as it came out to about $13 for two curry meals and a hot tea. All in all, I would say it's not great Thai food by any means, but it's not terrible or inedible either. If you're looking for a good deal, try this place, but bring someone with you to eat the other $1 meal instead of ordering it to go, unless you don't mind paying extra.

First and foremost, the food is excellent, but I was kind of put off by the wait staff here during the lunch hour. They seemed a little more interested in sharing photos with each other and talking about getting "sooo wasted" that they barely noticed their customers. The too-cool-for-school girl refilling the water barely said a word and seemed like she had much cooler places to be than there. Otherwise, a good restaurant, good lunch specials, etc.

Diamond in the rough. I thought this place was going to be a complete dump from the exterior (and some of the interior). It's quaint, dated and the bathrooms aren't especially clean. That said, the food was shockingly good. There were 4 of us and we were very hungry on our way to the airport. Everyone was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and the excellent service. Try the Sesame Chicken!

So I drive past the Thai Place to check out Tasty Thai. This home of goodness is located off the street in a strip wall between Sears Grand and KFC (I know a KFC in a strip mall, strange). I came in on a Sunday night just short of 7p (closes at 8p) to find the restaurant with only three open tables, I knew this was a good sign. The decor is nothing fancy, which you can purchase some of and bring home if you desire. The service was a bit slow as I think the staff was as bit thin on this night. We started with an appetizer order of Thai Spring Rolls served with peanut sauce. The texture was perfect and was definitely just rolled. They finished with a hint a spice, which was perfect. We ordered an entree of Cashew Chicken and Pad Thai w/ chicken. The Cashew Chicken comes served with a side of sticky rice. The sauce covering the chicken and vegetable medley was so perfectly balanced between sweet and spice, soo good. The Pad Thai was great, with sweet, savory sauce. The tamarind and peanuts are done in perfect amounts, I can't get over how excellent this food really tasted. I give it 4 stars because I don't do Thai often enough to have a good barometer. I will update once I get more calibrated. PS - Bring a jacket if dining in the cool months, absolutely freezing in here. The open foyer doesn't help either.

I'm utterly baffled at the reviews I read on this place. The only good thing I've had at this restaraunt is the Singha beer... I've traveled the world, taken many cooking classes, and have taken instruction from Master Chef - Sompon Nabnian in Thailand... Which if you're ever asia its worth going to chiang mai for the cooking school and the night safari. 100% of what I've tried here is a poor example of Thai Food. The place is dirty, the restrooms are filthy and the food is as close to Thai food as Springfield Cashew Chicken is to Chinese food... Now that I think about it, most places just off the street in Bangkok with open sewers are about the same sanitary conditions of Tasty Thai... so add some sewer smell to the restaraunt, and then at least the facility is authentic. For goodness sakes... they put Tomato Ketchup in the pad thai!... Whats next KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce? If I don't feel like making Thai at home, I'll head to Thai Home Place out south. Night and day better.

I had heard this was one of the best thai places in the kc area but I live in Brookside and never had a lot of reason to go anywhere north of the river so I ordered it to go on my way back from visiting grandparents in St. Joe. I ordered the thai spring rolls and green curry with tofu. The spring rolls were probably the best I've had in kc and the peanut sauce was also great. The green curry was amazing and filled with lots of tofu, not three large chunks like I get at most thai places, bamboo, basil, and peppers. I would have given it five stars if the guy at the cash register didn't feel the need to tell me a really lame and gross joke about a guy and a camel while I waited for my order. Overall Tasty Thai was awesome and I will probably be making the 30 min drive again soon.

Awful sesame chicken I will not be going there again!

Go for the food, not the decor. Seriously, the food is consistently terrific and reasonably priced.

One visit, and I doubt I will go back. Being my favorite cuisine, I am always disappointed by Thai places that cook fish sauce into the prep for their dishes, since I consider that an indication of quality. Of course, it also means it can't be eliminated. The server was friendly and helpful, though a bit confusing, trying to help me get something vegetarian. He told me to order one of 3 or 4 dishes from the lunch menu, none of which sounded good to me, then, upon further inquiry, replied that yes, many of the items from the regular menu were options as well. I didn't understand the reluctance to serve us from the regular menu, as he had given us both. Options from the one-sheet lunch menu include soup and a chicken wing (?). No vegetarian soup, and the chicken wing didn't appeal to either of us. Strange here was that tofu never appeared on the menu, yet it was readily available. When menus repeatedly list on each and every item that one can choose chicken, shrimp, pork or beef, it is hard to figure out why they can't add that additional choice. I asked for anything vegetarian that could be made very hot and was told there was nothing. He said none of the dishes were hot, and they only had one hot chili paste that it had animal products in it. We ended up with an appetizer, garlic tofu, which was kind of blah, and ginger tofu, which was pretty tasty. Unfortunately, the ginger tofu was much colder by the time it was brought out and hit room temperature quickly. Though it was 1:30 or 2:00, and there were three tables total (one before us and one after us, who ended up ahead), the single server seemed to really have his hands full. It took way too long for him to return after each stop, and he walked away after we ordered an appetizer, though we were opening our mouths to order our entrees as well. (To the server's credit, through the first 15 minutes of our visit, there were two women with a small child screaming bloody murder and climbing around, who was eventually dragged out, leaving waters and menus on the table. The acoustics of this tiny restaurant were not at all forgiving of a single hysterical toddler, and that did little to improve the experience. Everyone was a little shaken by it.) Though someone was paying at the register when we arrived, the server left our bill in one of those book-like black folders, the kind with trappers on each side and a card holder at the top. I put my card in it while we finished eating, hoping to speed up the process a bit. No luck; he was oblivious to it. We paid at the register. Though we were friendly and gracious to the server until we stepped out the door, I left agitated and panicky, as my lunch hour had turned into two hours and much of my time with my friend was wasted discussing food and time, though he had driven an hour each way to meet me for an hour-long lunch visit. Someone mentioned Thai House-- I am always looking for other Thai options as well, which is why I came here, but as Thai House has vegetarian curry options, keeps both dry and fresh Thai chili on hand, and is happy to make my food "Thai hot", I guess I will keep depending on them for now.

The Pad Ki Mao was excellent and my wife loved the hot tea. The prices are very reasonable and the server (the owner's son) was very friendly and attentive.

Had to try after reading so many great things about it. Started with the spring rolls and peanut sauce and I thought they were very good, although I do agree with Jay that they do give a lot of peanut sauce. No problem though. My wife had the Tom yum soup (shrimp) and this was one of the best soups I have ever tasted. I then had the red curry with shrimp and it was medium spiced and had tons of flavor. Very well cooked shrimp. My wife had the sweet and sour chicken (she tends to stay within her comfort zone) and it was much better then any sweet and sour chicken you get at any corner chinese resturaunt. There was a lot of meat and peppers and the sauce was not too sweet, great balance of sweet vs sour. Would have probably been a 5 star rating if we had not waited 5 minutes after getting seated to get something to drink. Other then that, had a great experience. Will definately go back!
